Really love this fence/gate. I actually bought it four years ago and just came back to get another. I have used it literally non-stop since I got it–it stands at the top of my stairs and I use it to keep my dogs on the same level of the house with me. I fold it up and lean it against the wall, put it back into place, move it to span different spaces at the top of the stairs, open/close the gate, leave the gate open… The biggest complaint I have is that the gate is relatively narrow, one cannot quite walk straight through and have to go in at a slight angle, but really I’ve gotten used to this. The other issue I have had occasionally is the little lever at the top loosening from time to time but that’s easily remedied by just remembering to tighten it a few times a year.I’m back shopping for another one after an accident with a large dog and a large suitcase attempting to go through the gate at the same time from two different directions–not surprisingly they don’t fit through together–the opposing forces caused the fence to snap at its only weak point where the gate closes. So now I have a panel with free-swinging gate attached (no longer useful), and two panels still connected. I could still use the existing hinges to put together a 3-panel gate with no door, which would work fine but I just love the ease of opening the gate… so I must get another before my dogs decide to abuse their new freedom. The gate is quite sturdy for normal use and nothing short of metal could have withstood the punishment it was put through that finally broke it after 4 years of constant use.Last but not least, it’s very attractive with a lovely wood grain and stain in a reddish color, and I have liked the way it looks since the day I got it, which is why I must get this one again specifically as most others don’t appear to be as lovely.

Gorgeous gate! Wood (vs plastic) gives a higher end look. White matches white kitchen cabinets & trim – crown molding, baseboards. 36” tall! Great for big dogs like Labrador Retrievers & Weimaraners. Width spans up to 80” opening making it versatile for different locations in our house. The walk-through door with two-way swing makes it very easy for people to come in and out from both sides. We’ve already broken in our new gate during a lake day party with all the neighbors. There were 4 dogs & 1 cat in the house. This gate insured all animals stayed out of the kitchen and away from the food, ha! Because this gate doesn’t secure into the wall (we didn’t want a permanent gate that did that) we highly recommend purchasing the 2 matching colored support feet. They work great! The gate is easy to fold, easy to carry and easy to store away when not needed. We searched and searched until we found the perfect gate that fit all of our needs. Most gates are a little pricey but they should only be a one time purchase – so worth it. We also had an interaction with this company’s customer service dept. Super friendly and helpful!

What I like:1) I have an odd space (see pics) I need to block and this works well in it, both in terms of flexibility with not having a wall on one side to work with and in terms of the odd angle in that space.2) LOVE the pass-through gate! Bonus: it DOES move both ways (contrary to a Q&A I read). See pics where I show it swinging both ways.3) The pass-through gate isn’t spring-loaded so it stays in whatever position I put it.4) The pass-through gate does “lock” but it doesn’t force lock it, so I can give the appearance to my dogs that it’s locked but still easily open and shut it. (The way I position it, my dogs would have to pull it open to pass through it and they’re not that smart!)5) It looks nice and it matches my mahogany furniture.6) It has rubber feet so it does not scratch the floor.7) I can easily re-position the 2 panels closest to my staircase so either just one room is blocked off (my living room) or two rooms are blocked off (the living room and the family room). This is a high traffic area so having the ability to easily do this without having to prop against furniture or resize the gate is really a life-saver (this was a super annoying issue with a traditional gate that is designed to fit between 2 walls I previously used in that area.)7b) The hinges allow for the panels to be moved in either direction, which makes it so flexible to use. Didn’t expect that but love it.8) The slats are really narrow so my small dogs cannot get through.9) It’s big enough for a large gap such as mine (about 4ft) but can also be configured to fit in smaller areas or even larger areas than mine, should I need that flexibility in different areas of my house.10) It was fully-assembled right out of the box.11) It’s quiet. Traditional gates are loud when locking/unlocking/resizing/moving.12) It’s remarkably stable, even when each panel is not “angled.” The only position I’d say isn’t stable is if you had the whole thing in one straight line.13) It folds up nicely in case I want to put it away or transport it somewhere.14) The locking mechanism is simple and doesn’t look like it’ll break down over time (vs. another brand I considered where people were reporting the button broke off over time and they couldn’t lock it anymore.)15) It arrived in 2 1/2 days with normal shipping!!! Far exceeded expectations! What I don’t like:Mine cost $100 and with all baby/dog gates, I feel like it’s overpriced. But that’s what the market allows (they know we spare no expense for our kids and fur babies) so I accept it. On the bright side, it was way more affordable than comparable styles I found when researching these.I also wished they offered it in white just because I think the dark wood may lend itself to feeling a little cluttered and I think the white would be more “invisible,” plus I have white traditional gates elsewhere in the house. However, this is a classy looking gate so I really can’t complain.Oh, one minor thing, the pass-through gate rubs against the panel next to it just a little when I shut it all the way. I don’t know if my floor is unlevel or somehow the gate itself is unlevel. I don’t shut it all the way 99% of the time, so not a big issue. When I do, I have to “lift” it a smidge to shut it.Very happy with this purchase!!

Very well made. Looks nice. We needed a longer gate for our small dog and this works very well. Adjustable by bending it as needed

I’ve purchased 3 of the 36″ tall gates so far. One to keep my handicapped kitten away from the top of my steps (which is a weird angle that a traditional gate wont work for), and 2 more gates to contain my foster kittens to half of the bedroom (shown in photo). I removed one panel from each unit, then connected the units together to form a huge 6-panel gate with 2 doors. Seems plenty sturdy. Seems stable. I like that I can add or remove panels if needed. Overall, it’s a beautiful gate that seems like it will last quite a while. If I need pet gates in the future, I will definitely purchase this gate again. The gates are well-packaged to prevent damage in transit. The lock mechanism works easily and beautifully. I don’t have any dislikes about the gate. If that changes, I will update this review.

This pet gate is great. With 4 panels, it is easily configurable in multiple positions to close off areas to pets. Even better that it folds together and can easily be ticked behind a door or slid under a couch when needed. Mind you, this gate isn’t going to deter a rambunctious medium to large sized dog, but it works great for an obedient dog, especially smaller dogs (my dog is 30lbs). The gate that opens is a great reprieve from the days of old of trying to side-saddle hop over baby gates used for the same purpose. Yes the width of the opening is a little narrow, but that is a minor issue at best. And most of us could stand to lose a few pounds anyway (myself included). The aesthetics are also pleasing, and a great upgrade to the typical battleship grey plastic gates.Overall rating – 5 stars. However, be advised of a major flaw. In a brief moment of anger, I pick up this phenomenal gate and threw it across my living room where it came crashing down on my coffee table. One of the hinges on the gate broke. I was disappointed to see this gate not be able to withstand a moderate 10 foot air toss. It seems the MFG. skipped the good ole’ drop test during their QA testing. But, I am willing to forgive this flaw and stand by my 5 stars!

2nd UPDATE: It’s been nearly 5 years now, and still going strong. It’s been through two kids, one full time dog, and two puppies on and off (pet sitting). Our youngest’s goal in life is to destroy everything he touches, and this gate has held up beautifully. We no longer need it around our stairs and use it around the entrance to the ball pit so that the balls don’t end up all over the porch. The gate gets a lot of use and has never let us down. I recommend it to everyone I know who is looking for a freestanding gate.UPDATE: We have been using this gate for 3.5 years now! It made a cross country move with us and has been used in two homes with two kids and a dog. We absolutely love this gate. It has a few small scuffs, but considering two kids, the dog, and the move, it is very solid and well made. We get compliments all the time on how nice it looks in the house.ORIGINAL REVIEW:SO happy I found this product! We have been looking for something to block off our stairs for a long time. We have a very difficult stairway to block off and needed something wide that we could configure around the area. The sections on this are narrow enough to allow for configuration around short areas without sticking out into the room. It is very sturdy, looks beautiful, easy to maneuver, and the gate is easy to open and close. We actually are using this for the purpose of keeping out 15 month old son away from the stairs. It is taller than most baby gates, and with the vertical bars he can not climb it or lean over it and fall. Our Samoyed doesn’t even bother going near it, and our cat can’t jump it (or she hasn’t tried at least). The bottom is padded, which is great if it shifts so that it doesn’t ruin our hardwood floors.Yes, this gate is easy to move, but nearly all freestanding gates are! I have not tried every freestanding gate out there, but every one I have used/tried/seen has been very easy to move. That’s why it’s important to be able to configure it so that it will still function as you need it to. You may need to buy the extension to make it more secure for very wide areas. If you stretch it straight out it will not be very secure (again, neither will any freestanding gate) – you must zig zag it to get extra stability.Overall, for the price this is definitely a quality item! This is by far the most inexpensive freestanding configurable gate that is of at least decent quality. The cheaper ones are just that, cheap. This is a high quality gate for a great price.

If you want to keep your dogs off the stairs, this product is well made and extremely simple. It has a small gate to let the human come and go but the dog to stay off. We’ve used clunky child gates for years, which don’t fit stairs that well. This is a game changer.

Most dog gates are flimsy and annoying. This is like a piece of furniture. It’s heavy! But it’s been such a great thing to have around with our dog. He could easily jump over it but he respects it, and it’s easy for us to move through it with the gate. The latch on the gate really depends on the position of the panels, but if you get them positioned well it latches firmly.

This gate is wonderful. Packed well and door latch incredibly easy. Very happy with this purchase!
